At this year’s event, dozens of supporters gathered at Granite Bay Golf Club during the last day of the competition. As they were there to watch the golfers play the last few holes; the scoreboard revealed that the Sactown Sticks and River City Rebels were neck-and-neck. With what proved to be a nail-biter to the bitter end, the River City Rebels came out on top. Led by team captain, River City Bank’s CEO and President, Steve Fleming, the River City Rebels eventually clinched the win—and with it, bragging rights for an entire year.
“We spent three months asking everyone we know to contribute to the causes that change lives in Sacramento, but the representatives we handed the checks to have made that their life’s work,” said Fleming. “It was humbling having them there cheering us on, when really they’re the ones that deserve all the credit.”
The event raised over $1.4 Million for local charities and non-profit organizations. In addition to this record-breaking total, six executives each raised over $100,000 for their charity. Once again, the Sacramento community has proven their generosity and exceeded expectations.
“Our donors appreciate that 100 percent of their contribution goes to the charities,” said Bob Clark, President of Operations at Clark Pacific and team captain of the Sactown Sticks. “The golfers pay $2,500 just for the honor of being in the tournament. Those player fees and sponsorships pay for the back-end expenses so that every penny of the $1.4 million raised will go to the selected charities.” The Capital Cup tournament would not have been possible without the generous support of its sponsors: DCA Partners, Moss Adams, River City Bank, Direct Technology, ConnectPoint Search Group, Buzz Oates, Clark Pacific, HaneyBiz, and Bouchard Communications Group.
The Capital Cup adapts the historic Ryder Cup format, using the event to promote community pride, healthy competition, and raise money for the Sacramento region’s most deserving charities. Divided into two teams, 28 executive leaders from the Sacramento region participated in this 3-day golf competition. Supporters are given the opportunity to back their favorite player (or their favorite charity), as each player is competing to benefit his or her favorite charitable organization.
